For the rest of you staring down the barrel of a big move in 2023. Here's what the experts at HGTV have to say about this years upcoming home decor trends:
"The year ahead actually has us looking back and revisiting the design aesthetics of the 1970s. Earthy tones from paprika orange to marigold yellow and every shade of brown are sure to be everywhere, as well as disco ball-inspired decor, woodsy furniture and retro kitchenware."
Starting with a bold choice HGTV outlines the power and impact of gothic interiors:
"Decor lovers are taking inspiration from gothic aesthetics with “moody living rooms” and “dark and moody bedrooms” seeing particular growth from Canadians on Pinterest. If you’re looking to bring the goth aesthetic into your home, start with rich, dark tones for the walls and furniture. add in interesting textures like velvet and play with height by adding interest through lighting features that play with dimension (like this overhead light, or plenty of candles of varying heights)."
Following along with the heavier, more broody side, of design HGTV doubles down with the idea of dark academia:
"Dark academia home decor creates the perfect mood for cozy nights in spent reading by a fire. Expect rich tones on the wall, dark wood furniture and plenty of books (nestled on black bookshelves) to fill up your home office, library or study."
Did your family home have a gallery wall growing up? Packed with nostalgia and embarrassing pictures throughout the years...the old trend is coming back accoring to HGTV:
"Gallery walls never really go out of style. They’re a great way to fill a wall with colour without having to invest (and even more difficult, decide on) a large art piece or commit to a dramatic pop of colour on the walls. They’re also easy to create by sourcing a mix of thrifted, vintage and new frames for an interesting mix of colours and designs. In 2023, we’re predicting this trend will be more popular than ever, with a focus on vintage arts and frames."
Time to travel back a few decades in time...because HGTV says that the 70's are coming back & 70's decor is set to make a big comeback in 2023:
"Expect to see ’70s references surging in popularity thanks to stars like Harry Styles and Taylor Swift really leaning into the aesthetic this year. Low, modular furniture, earthy colour palettes (think oranges, yellows and greens) and bold patterns are all marks of the era that will make their way into home designs in 2023."
Trends rotate throughout the years...but some ideas are timeless. This year HGTV see's the ageless expression of white kitchens returning to the spotlight:
"We expect the reign of the white kitchen to be back and stronger than ever (after a brief turn to more colourfully accented kitchens over the past year). It’s easy to see why this trend has such popularity: white kitchens are classic, clean and stylish, making them a perpetual favourite of designers everywhere. Canadian Pinterest users have increased their interest in “white kitchens” and we expect it to be the most popular trend in kitchens over the next year."
