Preparing Your Home for Sale

OUTSIDE

  • Keep lawns and gardens well maintained
  • Keep garage and porch areas free of clutter
  • Remove clutter from yard
  • Repair loose siding or pavement
  • Clean back deck/patio and walkways (powerwash)
  • Replace any burned out light bulbs (clean allxtures)
  • Tidy shed
  • Oil gate
  • Replace any damaged roof shingles, eavestroughs or cracked windows
  • Wash windows, gutters, mailbox and doors
  • Secure loose awnings 

 

INSIDE

  • Make sure home is neat, clean and well-lit
  • Ensure your home looks spacious/bright
  • Eliminate unpleasant odours
  • Remove any cobwebs
  • Keep kitchen and bathroom sparkling clean
  • Clean all appliances
  • Clean kitchen cabinets
  • Remove items stored on counter/on top offridge
  • Remove mildew stains/rust stains
  • Clean all mirrors/light plates/cupboardhandles
  • Repair any dripping faucets and showerheads
  • Make sure all doors/windows, open/closefreely
  • Ensure closets look spacious, organized and uncluttered
  • Steam clean/replace carpets
  • Thoroughly clean and de-clutter all rooms
  • Repaint as necessary

 

PRE-SHOWING CHECKLIST

  • If possible leave home during showing, at the very least remain in one room during the showing
  • Secure pets
  • Make sure rooms are tidy and aired out
  • Keep thermostat at comfortable level
  • Put away all valuables
  • Open drapes to maximize natural lighting
  • Keep all stairways and hallways free of clutter
  • Display photos of your home during other seasons to show landscaping
  • Leave out hydro/heating bills
  • Use finishing touches like flowers and candles
