15 Tri City Hikes Perfect For The Fall

Looking to take advantage of the lingering warm weather?

Luckily for residents (and visitors!) the Tri City area we all call home if full of natural splendor to discover, and the following fifteen hikes are jus the tip of the iceberg.

Ranging in difficulty, accessibility, and length, all fifteen of these trails are within roughly 30 minutes of one another. With access to so much nature there is undoubtedly something for the whole family.

Here are five highlights to get you started:

  1. Buntzen Lake:

    • While the area may be most well known for its summertime family recreation area it offers numerous hikes of varying degrees of difficulty. The most popular trail is likely the lake-loop, a 10 km circle encompassing the lake…and perfect for beginners. There is also the ever popular Diaz Vistas trail, a six plus hour 15 km hike with stellar viewpoints.
  2. Coquitlam Crunch:

    • Taking its inspiration from the Grouse Grind this Tri City staple is located in Coquitlam and is easily accessible by car. The trail itself is 4.5 km long, but it can easily be shortened for beginners by turning around at any point. Expect a well-groomed trail, a fair number of stairs, and a few runners. If you are looking for a quick burst of fresh air to liven up your exercise routine this one is for you.  
  3. Jug Island Beach:

    • Located at the northern tip of Belcarra Regional Park, this 5.5 km roundtrip trail offers a reward midway through. At the turn around point hikers will find themselves at a beach facing Jug Island; perfect for an afternoon picnic, a summertime swim, or even a quick rest. The trail is accessible year-round and off intermediate difficulty.
  1. Shoreline Trail:

    • One of the most scenic trails in the Tri Cities with 6 km of easy water view walking around Burrad Inet. From Rocky Point to Old Orchard Park, you'll cover large sections of raised boardwalk along with forested gravel paths. Not only is it a perfect place for a walk...you also have easy access to all Rocky Point, and Port Moody as a whole has to offer. 
  2. Mundy Park: 

    • An idealic communit park located fairly centrally in Coquitlam, Mundy Park offers roughly 6 km of winding trails--all of which are of easy difficutly. You can make your walk as long, or as short, as you would like; it is perfect for a quick escape in nature during a busy day. There are also two small lakes in the park: Mundy Lake and Lost Lake. Many of the trails are easily accessible for wheel chairs and strollers, and a number of them offer off-leash options for dogs.
